NFL Cheerleaders are the most poorly paid employees of the NFL. With 26 of the 32 teams with a cheerleading squad, most cheerleaders are making only $500-$750 per season with more experienced cheerleaders making about $1250/month.
Not taken into account are unpaid hours of practicing and purchasing their own uniforms. Many cheerleaders view the job as a networking opportunity and of course there are alternatives to supplement incomes during paid appearances and other rare opportunities, but those opportunities are few and far between, until now.
In a move expected to bring outrage or delight, several cities are planning to roll out private cheerleader dancing and 'cheers' in special refurbished VIP lounges including dancing stages, poles, and large projection screens. Since there will be alternate squads and substitutes, all the cheerleaders will be able to rotate from the field to the lounges during various periods throughout the game. The extra revenue is expected to bring in several million dollars per team.
